As students, teachers & families settle in to the new school year, it's time to pay attention to mental health as well as academics--especially today, on World Suicide Awareness Day. Norwalk is a city rich in resources (as Ed Milton, the TeenTalk counselor at NHS/PTECH, likes to say), and that includes FREE counseling available in our schools, thanks to collaborations between NPS and community nonprofits. So, we've updated our video and resource guides with the latest information on FREE services available both at school and in the community to help with mental health, substance misuse, and peer support. Our two-minute video provides UPDATED info on hotlines, school-based mental health & substance resources (including room numbers and contact info), and peer supports that are all free and available to middle and high school students. (Some are also available in elementary schools.) The video also identifies community resources for more services and supports across the lifespan. Please share it to your website, social media and Google classroom, so that all our kids know help is always available!

We're also happy to announce that Norwalk Public Schools is continuing to fund a Licensed Alcohol & Drug Counselor at each high school building, one day per week. Students are encouraged to visit Ms. Barnett with any questions they may have, with no need for a referral. She is at NHS/PTECH on Tuesdays and at BMHS/CGS on Wednesdays. If you'd like to send a student, please download the referral form below.
